To Henry H @ 19:22 and all those that pine for the old days. The "human" side I saw was an incredible number of incompetent managers at all levels making ridiculous sums of money and producing nothing. Entrepreneurial? Get serious. Gamblers and spenders are more like it. Aubrey was talented to be sure and built quite a company. But he got caught up in his own hubris and surrounded himself with people that couldn't or wouldn't say no for fear of being kicked off the gravy train. Lawler is right on two major counts. The culture at CHK was insular and in many ways still is so. Its NOT a place where you can speak freely or challenge. Outside ideas are not welcome and I hope that changes. Two, you build a company to be profitable in good and bad times and don't bet on plays or parlay one play to bankroll the next gamble. Great companies have process and order and old CHK had very little. That will change although the task will be formidable especially since the first question from the "field" was "Are we still going to have a Halloween Party?". How embarrassing is it that is first and foremost on someone's mind? I have worked for this company longer than most in both the field and campus and its time for folks on campus to understand they support the work out in the field, NOT the other way around. Yes, indeed it is a new day....
