It was a mess in the Uniontown, Ohio field office yesterday. All the years of hard work, dedication, 60+ hour work weeks all came down to being “separated” as a group of cattle. Standing in line with your electronic equipment, waiting for them to place it in a brown paper bag, mark your laptop with a label and your name, then have to listen to some HR rep droning on about benefits even though you heard it already from the ten people they talked to right in front of you in line. The way this process was handled from start to finish was a fiasco and frankly, traumatic to everyone, those let go and those who weren’t. I’m lucky I was given a severance package but jobs in Ohio are very tough to come by these days. Hopefully we will find something in our field again. Most of those let go were good people, worked hard, and, like me, loved their job and the company CHK used to be, we strived to do our best. Until you’ve been treated as a mere “number”, you’ll never understand how sad this whole situation has been.
