Perception is everything, when you layoff a specific demographic ie older employees even if in layoffs, age discrimination is arguable and while some may disagree a jury of your peers looking over why a Billion dollar company can give you a severance package or vest your stock will see things with more sympathy and chk should do everything to treat its employees leaving the right was...even the banks in mass layoffs vest stock and give severance...likely no one at chk has done the cost benefit of giving severance vs potential legal costs
