@Wifey: Absolutely! Not only do they protect themselves, they fired the most productive individuals, anyone seen as a threat to their realm, as a pre-emptive strike. Hard work, productivity, ethics, ALL out the door, if your manager saw an employee as someone who may threaten their existence(say, following moral, ethical or even basic company policy), they were lined up ASAP. Pay-scales were looked at as well, but not management! It's sort of a regular, man-made event, it happens a lot. But take MOOG SLC, they did a layoff about 4 years ago. MOOG not only gave severance, they gave ALL employees about 9 months notice. Pretty nice, for shutting down a division and shipping all the work back to East Aurora, NY, or to the Phillipines even (mechanical division). MOOG was very professional about that, no "hello it's Thursday, you're benefits are gone!" type of restructuring. Good luck again, Hill A.F.B is hiring. Dugway also needs people, it's a commute from hell here but they still need people.
