University of Phoenix has built a business on the lowest common denominator of our nation. Think about it, UOP does not want intelligent students. Intelligent students do not profit the machine. After all, intelligent students question what is put in front of them. Intelligent students cannot be sold. Intelligent students don’t have to be psychologically manipulated into revealing their life’s goals. Intelligent students do their research. Intelligent students understand the meaning of accreditation. Intelligent students know the difference between a pell grant and a student loan. Intelligent students can work independently of their EA, AC or FA. Intelligent students question the curriculum when it’s too mundane. Intelligent students know they have options. Intelligent students spend time researching the nursing, criminal justice, computer science, education and social worker programs they want to transfer in to. Intelligent students understand their aggregate loan limits. Intelligent students can’t easily be talked into crippling debt. Intelligent students are looking for legitimate degrees, not free money. Intelligent students do not like to be coddled or hand-held. Intelligent students know what it takes to find a good job with their degree as opposed to joining up for a master’s program. Intelligent students can objectively look at current affairs and not follow the panic. Intelligent students understand the country’s student loan crisis and are looking to avoid the crisis as opposed to adding more fuel to the fire. Intelligent students do their homework. Intelligent students loathe being called if they haven’t posted by Wednesday. Intelligent students don’t put up with shit for empty promises. Intelligent students see the light of their destiny and instinctively know when to follow it. We are not needed to lead them to it. I left UOP because I got tired of dealing with unintelligent people, begging them, pleading with them, and sacrificing my ethical and moral compass for the machine and their need to feed on the unintelligent. Daily, I questioned my own intelligence for not having the ability to change the thoughts and behavioral outcomes of unintelligent people. It was mutating into a virus and I was finding myself less and less immune. The fish rots from the head down. It will not happen overnight, but the biggest wheel takes the longest to move. Keep the faith, friends, and never question your intelligence and individuality. The machine doesn’t deserve you.
