Thread regarding Sigma-Aldrich Corp. layoffs

Sigma-Aldrich is currently undergoing huge changes

Sigma-Aldrich is currently undergoing huge changes. It started with the IT department and is now funneling to the business. I don't believe that the layoffs are over. They will do dribbles and drabs so that they don't have any media attention on the layoffs.

The IT department recently acquired new leadership. This leader has a firm belief in the India delivery model. Yeah. The same model that has been unsuccessful in many other organizations. As a result, he has shifted the focus from projects to tactical (read: lights on) initiatives. Keep in mind that this leader has experience with outsourcing complete departments and then leaving before learning the necessary lessons.

I was told that I was laid off. I practically floated out of the building because I was absolutely delirious with joy. Now I can focus full-time on another position. I received the equivalent of 3 weeks for every year, all of my vacation for the year (I have heard that the Personnel policies have recently changed to prevent this), company paid COBRA assistance, and outplacement assistance. I am pleased with the package especially, the Outplacement assistance firm, which is a complete class act.

I will never consider working at Sigma again. The leaders need to stand up and be leaders and not high paid micromanagers with no vision.

Don't be afraid of the change. If you are worried about your job, you should be. Get your ducks in a row and welcome the change! Good luck!
