To some extent it is a "Heald College screwup" from the consumer's point of view. Assuming your relative doesn't owe the money and CCI won't budge then simply file a lawsuit against CCI especially the moment the collection hits the credit report. If your relative kept a good paper trail showing to CCI that she doesn't owe the money then the moment the lawsuit arrives at CCI's doorstep then you might be looking at an attractive settlement. Talk to a lawyer. It's hard to believe that Heald got WASC Sr. accreditation to offer BS degrees in business and nursing. Heald enrollment has been dropping over 20% from Fall Quarter 2012 to Fall Quarter 2011 and it doesn't look like that January 2013 Quarter will show any improvement. The simple fact of the matter is that Heald has so many DISSATISFIED customers getting the word on the street that the salespeople are having ever more difficult time getting people to sign up. Heald has some pretty NEGATIVE reviews on glassdoor dot com and yelp dot com. Heald is doing some MAJOR HOUSECLEANING by getting rid of FULL TIME faculty members especially those with over 10 years of tenure being hired before the days of CCI and replacing them with throw away adjunct faculty for $2000 or even less a course. The new adjunct faculty members are expected to last only a quarter then new adjunct faculty will be hired. The latest tragicomical aspect is the great "Heald Career Days" which are peddled to the newbies as a sales pitch. Only problem is that the employers at the Heald Career Days are those with throw away jobs at the strip mall. Heald has its 150th anniversary next year and it will be interesting to see the planned celebrations. Most likely over the next couple of months, Heald will introduce the new BS degree programs in business and the nursing program at Fresno. Even worse is that the local community colleges are likely to be going after Heald students as the CCs get reimbursed by the state on the number of students. The job market in Northern California is among the WORST in the US and an AA degree is totally WORTHLESS in the pursuit of a "professional" career.
