Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

@Dr. Who. The majority of the Heald Faculty are extremely conscientious in their duties. The people I feel sorry for outside the students who got ripped off are the long time faculty members with over a decade of tenure having been at Heald prior to its conversion to a for profit school. NO ONE is going to jeporadize a tenured CC or CSU faculty position for ANY job at Heald. The student quality at Heald keeps dropping every quarter. The concept of a reduction in the administrative overhead (e.g. administrators being paid six figure salaries), reducing the number of overpaid sales people (until very recently), getting rid of clueless FA people is never under consideration. If a Faculty member complains about lack of resources along with the administrative work (e.g. crap) gets the response from administration "This is a business and education is secondary". Since this is a board on layoffs, Heald faculty are somewhat fortunate in that many faculty are voluntarily quitting to avoid all the hassle. That will only exacerbate the teaching quality as the best Heald instructors for the most part also taught at the local PUBLIC CC as well (one or two even taught at the CSU). For what it is worth, JM being the big CCI boss went around at the earnings call saying that the loss of Cal Grants was not having an effect on NEW enrollments which was technically true at the time he made the statement but is going to be shown to be woefully inaccurate. The final straw for many Heald faculty members is being volunteered e.g. drafted into sales. It must get tiring to hear in contrast to the public CC or CSU in the "daily faculty meeting" of the need to "improve student retention", "serve the student", "special attention", "you need to give extra office hours but we don't have decent study space", etc. and at the same time see that the whole Heald experience for most is a sad joke. One Heald instructor who also teaches as the local CC quipped to me that his classroom was transformed into a student service office which demonstrated "core corporate values".
