Heald College counselors are getting laid off in surprisingly large numbers. The number that keeps getting talked about is over 40. Heald College administrators are hoping that more just voluntarily quit but that is not the likely outcome. Even more telling is that the counselors realize that the gig is up. Heald being banned from Cal Grants, the HELP report on for profit schools and most important the recent Heald Graduates of the last 2 years being from 2010 bitterly complaining that they can find no more than "throw away" jobs. "Get in, Get out, Get Ahead" being Heald's motto translates best into "Get in, Get out, Get in student loan debt, Get unemployed". Nor is it all Heald's fault but the employment situation is exacerberated by Northern California being one of the most competitive job markets in the nation. An AA degree just doesn't cut it anymore. You need a BS degree from a reputable institution to have even a remote chance of landing an entry level job. Heald is going to be pushing BS degrees but it is not clear if they will have enough students.
