Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

I currently work at Everest

I currently work at Everest. It is a career college, people. The types of instructors that they hire have attended the same types of schools. I attended and graduated from two traditional schools with NCAA sports teams, organizations, etc. Everest and the like are not truly about educating people. They are about recruiting people who would not be admitted into any traditional college, even in that college's remedial education program.

I have taught at traditional colleges and this place is the most stressful education work environment that I have ever experienced. School is supposed to be fun and stress free, but there is so much emphasis on retention, and everybody is in sales at these schools, that no one is stress free. There are a lot of creer college jobs around. Watch the news. The government is cracking down on these types of schools are they are making false promises to students. Also someone had written about a dean not having a masters degree. Where I work, I can count on one hand the numbers of people that have masters degrees. At traditional college, even the secretary has a degree. Here, including myself, there are 4 people that have masters degrees and one of those is the president. At traditional schools, instructors had to have a masters in the subject that they were teaching or at least 18 graduate hours in that subject. In this case, the students, or rather the tax payers, are not getting what they pay for.
