Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

age share

Just curious what age people are on here. I'm 53 and the average age on my termination letter was 51.

I know IT in Austin was hit hard.

There's supposed to be a big shortage of IT people (that's why they need the H1B visa), but GM is throwing away hundreds of them because they don't know what to do with them.

And PS age should not be an issue period, it's about the deliverables. GM clearly wants cheap cheap cheap, am I wrong ? Retain talent! How about instead of firing people, stop company cars for a year or two, make the executive take a pay cut on up. My question is who was hit the hardest department wise? Engine groups, transmission groups or primarily IT folks? What about all the sedan design teams since we aren't apperently doing cars anymore?

43, and my colleague was 28, it seems wide range. In my case I was contract and they cut all of us. The co worker was hired direct. I don't think 43 is to old considering all the people on my old team are in their 50s at least.

49 … average age of people terminated in my immediate group was 53. Also know the ages of 15 additional people outside of my immediate group who were let go … including these additional people, the average age is 51 years.
