I am confident most of the replies here will be negative, but I am curious to see if there are people who actually have something positive to say.

UP has changed for the worse for the last 5 years. Everyone I know [including me ] are trying to survive until retirement or bad order after 20. I doubt we will make it. It seems like UP is going out of its way to alienate the workers. Any loyalty I felt towards UP is DEAD! Im sure theres a special place in hell for the demons in O mygosh. Ive never seen a company more hell bent on making their employees miserable , even if it costs them more money to do so. Maybe getting laid off would be a blessing. To all my fellow workers at UP.........Hang in there but don't sell your soul and think for one second that Unkle Pete gives a fat f--k about you or your family.
Question: Does the Union Pacific HR team still show up in the field every six months with crocodile tears and say “we’re here to find out why so many people are quitting?”
Yeah Ok guys. And I’m still trying to figure out which is faster dial-up or broadband.
This is the second survey question to appear on this site in a week. This is part of what is wrong with this company.
No rating scale for the work environment is provided, so it can't really be "rated" in a meaningful way according to the phrasing of the question. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best and 1 being the worst, I give it a 2.
This company has a number of systemic issues. One major issue is the complete erosion of trust in upper management. Only qualified individuals (education+experience) should be in leadership. If UP did something to retain managers instead of burning them out within the first year this would be less of a problem. Set days off (where you're not on call) with sick time, personal days and a salary that actually reflects the amount of time spent on the job would help also.
There isn't a single person I know at UP who isn't looking for another job right now, except maybe for some of the executives and a few masochists who actually enjoy being treated like ballast.
Answer your question?
I guess if I enjoyed being treated like c-ap I would give a 10 out of 10! Since I’m not a fan of the working conditions equivalent to the 1920’s I’ll have to rate working here at about 2 out of 10. I’m actively looking for other employment working myself into the ground is no longer fun. Hope this helps with your survey.
All the Total Safety Culture guys are coming out of hiding. They see their opening. This is a great job and I’d like to give you this TSC card because I noticed when you got up you pushed your chair in. Thank you. And may God bless America.
There are some real s---asses on here
The work environment is what you make it. They can't fire you for taking your time and working safely. There are people out there working way harder than we do for much less money and no benefits. Our lives are still easier than our great granparents'. If we lose our jobs, then we'll find a different job. If our skills become outdated or obsolete, then we must learn new skills. That's life no matter where you work.
What’s great about working for kids strait out of college with little to no experience in the mechanical field? O that’s right. Just do exactly what they ask you to and watch the place burn to the ground. Who enjoys going to work releasing equipment that could harm the public because your management has no idea and all they see is a numbers.. there is no doubt a special place in h@ll for the folks ruining this company.
I know one guy that’s the complete opposite. He doesn’t use the bathroom at his house but instead saves it up for when he gets to work. Said he’s got plumbing issues at his house. I think that’s literally the only reason he still works for Union Pacific is the bathroom privileges. If it’s on one of his off days he goes to a McDonald’s and uses their toilet. I got to admire the man. He’s saved a lot of money on toilet paper over the years.
I don’t know about lazy railroaders being laid off but I know of tons of people that quit and have better jobs and don’t have to deal with lazy Enron Pacific leadership anymore.
Keep up the good work UP! Stock is booming! Hundreds of lazy railroaders are gone and now the lazy railroaders still working actually have to work. Lets get one man crews implemented and automated inspection systems in place! 💰 💰 💰
Great pay and benefits? The pay is ok, i make more now, working daylights with weekends off. The benefits arent the worst, but they are far from great. I know of several companies that pay all of you and the families insurance.
The days off at the railroad s---, I understand seniority, yes the guys that have been there should have the better days off, but they could add some more weekend off days.
The time off s---s, barely any vacation, no sick days, no personal days, work every holiday.
It's not a terrible place if you need a job, but looking around, you can definitely find better careers.
It's a great job, damn good pay for the work we do. Railroad industry is changing, not just UPRR. All railroads are along with the outside. If we dont change with the railroads we will not have a job. Those that are angry are the ones that dont want to work. Either leave or change.
Lol the work is great but, no one should have to deal with someone trying to fire you for actually doing the job you are federally mandated to perform for the sake of public safety.
Great job when you do what your suppose to and follow the rules. It's not that hard and has provided a great life and great pay/benefits. The railroad is changing again and accept it or move on. I do feel bad for the direction and actions recently but it is what it is.
The only people who would say it’s great are the Overloads in the glass palace and the managers that are enjoying cutting everyone’s throats. The one in Kansas City is definitely enjoying this.
