Thinking of quiting soon. Do we get paid out for our unused vacation time?

YMMV. When i terminated an employee, HR wanted to understand how much vacation the person took. HR then used a prorated schedule to determine how much remaining vacation they had based on a quarterly accrual. The soon to be former employee was paid out for 2 quarters of vacation minus the vacation they took. This was 2-3 years ago. When i was separated, i was let go in early february, and paid as an employee until the end of month, then severance for the separation period, no regard for vacation taken.
602 Impact of Separation

- NOTE: During the first year of employment, employees must have been hired by no later than September 30 to be eligible for the 15 days of vacation.
Vacation days are not prorated so take them all. Take as much sick days as you can. They do not pay out your left-over sick days. Good luck.
To be sure, look in the GM handbook under the benefits website. They may prorate but the only way is to check what's in writing.
@ZrFJO70-iqp I always found the whole "walk out" very odd - reminiscent of a bitter ex. I can say that its not something that happens in GMIT.
Not to mention they can walk you out right then once you give notice
As soon as you put in your notice, all your vacation is gone! Apparently it's acorporate policy.
Use up all your paid vacation days before you even remotely mention anything about leaving.
I beleive they pro rate the vacations, like they might discount money from your last paycheck if you exhausted all the vacations but quit in september for example. but if you have vacations day spared, i dont think they pay them for you, so make sure to exhaust vacations up to the pro rate amount and take the rest as sick days, if you quitting anyway, it doesnt matter if you fall behind in work
No, it is not “earned”.
Take all your vacation time and as many sick days as you can.
Just exhaust it like I did.
