Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

How are we getting people to join?

Everybody knows by now about constant layoffs at Schlumberger and the way the company treats its employees. Just a simple Google search will show that to any potential employee.

So how are we managing to still rope people in? Who is desperate enough to join us with all that info readily available?

The issue is not getting people, but rather retaining them. Whether deserved or not, having SLB on your resume makes you highly valuable to other employers. There are people across functions (engineers, operators, support staff) who just want to put in a year or 2 @ SLB and then jump ship when they get a better offer elsewhere. At least that's what happens in NAM. Retention is impossible, especially with younger employees b/c they want work-life balance and won't tolerate being treated like garbage by SLB management or some knuckle-dragging company man on location.

We will get more employees if SLB stop cutting hours and dropping the bonus every chance they get I been here 5 year's and every year the bonus go's down I don't know what I'm still doing here slb don't realize the more you drop the bonus the more nothing gets done on location supervisors don't care anymore everyone is just getting by till the layoffs it all a gamble

They aren't.

When is the last time you saw an actual new hire? Not a center transfer.

Inertia. I joined 3 years ago mostly because of the good memories I had of my internship I did a little bit more than 5 years ago. Last year we had a summer intern, I don't think he went home with good memories though.

I would also add that the recruiting standards have gone down a lot, at least for engineers.
