Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Is it better to jump ship now rather than wait and wait?

Who is job hunting on the side? I am. I’d rather have a say in my future than constantly wait worry hope wonder.

Are there others feel the same? I work in Omaha so it’s not likely for me to find another railroading gig.

In the meantime, sorry boss I am sick, late, dropping or picking up kids wife husband , dental appt 😂

Depending upon your current position, it can take longer to find a job in Omaha than you think. Get your resume up to date and start looking. You never know when you'll get that tap on the shoulder. Many with new jobs are very happy with new company - better environments and 40 HOUR work weeks. Get your life back.

If your in Omaha, you are in the tower or down the road in the COB yard. If you are really wanting to jump, I had no problem getting offers the following day after I received my letter. You do have to plan ahead, have that COL for 2-3 months available. I landed a job for 28 an hour, non union, so no fees there, no more RRT2. with this I just surpassed what UP was paying at 33. Good Luck

Jump as soon as you get a good offer.

And don't give two weeks notice. UP just tells you to give back any of their property that you have immediately and they stop paying you just as quickly.

Pad your resume with transferable skills that you picked up on the job (ex. SAP for supply chain). Don't focus so much on the railroad specific stuff that few people know or care about.

Good luck.
