Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

RIFS Are here Beg of June

It took about a month for the RIFS to surface. Any one drinking the cool aid that the Bankruptcy was just a Balance Sheet Exercise was not really thinking.

Teams were given a target to begin to reduce headcount. And the implementation of those RIFS began today.

Of course senior management, as always is safe for the time being. New CEO's direct reports will probably be changed out soon though.

Good luck to those who remain. It will not be pretty.

Not sure I’d call them RIF’s .... more like replacing long term experienced employees in the US with cheap labor in India

I heard July, the next round of RIFs in the US. That’s the buzz in my group. This seems to make sense because I remember a round of layoffs in July the last two summers.

“True a lot of jobs are moving to India be we seem to lose a lot of workers from India as well.”

This is what a hiring manager told me: what Sungard AS offers them is a pittance compared to what they can get from other companies. In some cases, during hiring, workers would take the offer but bail at the last minute and take an offer from another company.

True - happened 6/3. Unless layoffs happen in your neck of the woods, you won't find out about them. I find out when I send an email needing something from a coworker in another facility and it bounces back, we are left holding the sh*t until you finally find out who took their place or who has taken over their duties. Every month, either by layoff or moving on we lose about 30 peoples sometimes more, sometimes less - some from India as well, not sure why there is such high turnover there. True a lot of jobs are moving to India be we seem to lose a lot of workers from India as well.

If the 7-8 were let go for performance reasons, this would not be considered a RIF nor would they be eligible for any severance. The company can let anyone go for performance reasons and rehire with no restrictions.

People let go but “None for financial reasons?” Really?? So in your world there were 7-8 people all doing a poor enough job to be terminated, at the same time???

That does not make any sense whatsoever.

Probably the same id--ts who are celebrating the hiring of summer interns on Linkedin posts, no idea clueless lemmings following the clueless leadership. No sky is falling rhetoric, just reality of the situation, it's not good to be an extreme on either end, answer is always in the middle, and the middle right now means "quiet" small rifs across the organization so as to not make a big splash

Mr or Mrs "it was only like 7 or 8 people out of the entire org" must be management or aspires to be management and in my opinion is certainly fit to be management at this place based on that attitude. To that insensitive sociopath, why don't you try being a human being for once, just try it out. Also next time (hopefully) you will be one of those 7 or 8 people and I'm sure then you'll have a different attitude about things. What a POS.

Actually, OPG called it.

He said to expect a more streamlined and efficient alignment between product and opps.

What’s next OPG?

“Yep, can confirm RIF's have started. But, we are turning the corner and should be clear sailing going forward, right OPG???”

It’s all part of that magical utopia where there is nothing but positive energy oozing from RIFs. For there is nothing more positive in life than to see good employees lose their jobs. That is the gospel according to OPG. Yes, we have truly reached that turning point of greatness, as OPG had lectured us. In fact, the crowning achievement of positivity is if OPG himself gets ousted. Then he’ll have a lot of free time to continue his lectures here at this layoff site.

Any idea on who's getting RIF'd. You know no one will know until you go to email the RIF'd employee for something and get no response.
