You are not your job. Your self-worth and manhood should not be equated to your job. Think about it, you really have very little control over what happens to you at your job. Yes, your good work sometimes will make a difference but not always. You have probably read many posts on here where people know someone who was a good worker but in the end it didn't make a difference and they were cut. The best advice was given earlier when someone said you should view yourself as an independent contractor, always try gain skills that will boost your employability and give your employer your best efforts. But never put your job ahead of you or your family.
