When did Xerox Pension Plan get discontinued? Also, can someone explain how it work?

True, pensions are generally gone at work places both large and small - unless you happen to be a teacher, firefighter, policeman or other government worker (or one of the few remaining union members).
Pensions have gone the way of dinosaurs everywhere. Only old employees talk about them.
Xerox stopped pension benefits for new hires eff. 1/1/2005. Xerox stopped contributing to the RGIP in 2012.
