Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

spoilage at the end of the night

I am so tired of when it is time to do “free mania” at the end of the night certain team members hoard a lot of the items that are there. These same team members take anything in the break room that is not nailed down...even if the item or items were meant for everyone.

I’ve worked at other stores but I have never seen anything like this at other stores.

It’s mind boggling...

9/05/22 is the day whole foods has decided to imitate Target and do away with allowing TM to take spoilage home but instead compost or trash anything expired or unsellable at a time of inflation where workers could benefit from it and keep things out of the landfill. Amazon, you suck!!! Hope workers all tell them how they feel so they can revoke these new changes!!!

At my store, everything that is shelf stable gets donated, If it's perishable, it goes in the break room - every dept contributes.

In the Ne region you get fired if you even take a banana home from the break room. Seen it happen.

I see both sides of this story. I understand people needing food and sharing with those that need it but at least at my store-there are often times when team members take everything and there’s nothing left for people if they get there late or are too slow. It’s a hard call. I do understand both sides of it though and everyone deserves to get something. We have all worked very hard and at the end of the day to have a little snack is awesome 😀

I totally agree. I know that some TMs know single moms and friends that aren't making alot of money. They spread the spoilage among them.

I would rather see one TM take it all than see any of it thrown in the trash. We can do better than wasting perfectly good product. Yes, we can donate a certain amount but what about everything that we can't? Come on: just because a few tms will abuse the system? Doesn't mean we have to continue a bad practice. Better to give a morale boost to the majority with day old bakery goods (for example) that cannot be given away vs making everyone feel like a potential thief. Either treat us like family or be upfront about internal theft and why the company is scared to allow tms to have product, believing it will create a culture of stealing.

Most of us are living paycheck to paycheck and while we are never going to steal, the occasional bonus meal makes life easier (and sweeter). So if you are seeing certain tms being "greedy"? Maybe they haven't always had enough food on the table. Maybe they live with a scarcity mentality. We have TMs who have lived through wars and famines. Let's just be glad we have enough for them to take, okay?

Even worse than the greedy people are the uptight busybodies who feel the need to police the actions of everyone around them. Seriously, are you really that upset that Jim from Whole Body ate an extra slice of cake? Do you not have anything else to worry about?

Thin to fat??? That can easily be half of my store tms. Some are so big now they can be their own country. That's if they don't have a widowmaker first.

Ours is "supposedly " goes for donation to the less fortunate. So why does leadership let us take it home???

It' fascinating to watch employees who are thin when they get hired and slowly get fat from eating half a damn cake everyday. The bakery leaves free sh-- in the breakroom everyday and theres at least a couple overdone pizzas. I watch the same people everyday who cant control themselves shoving food in their faces.

The only free stuff our store allows are samples from vendors. All mispicked or spoiled food gets donated or destroyed. I actually prefer this. My other store's breakroom looked like a dump with all the free c-ap everywhere.

We do it in the Florida region. All shifts do it , no back check when tms are leaving. You can take the whole store home and leadership doesn't care.

I’ve worked at WF for five years. We’ve always been able to take home spoilage at the end of the night. Some stores

Make you pay for it though.

Are you saying that team members can now take home spoilage? Not too long ago team members got fired for doing that. Even if it was small like a muffin from the pastry case or a bucks worth of french fries.
