100% job security doesn't exist

There's no such thing as 100% job security. I don't know why anyone would assume there is. Maybe it's because I hopped around to a few different companies before I landed at GM midway through my career, but my job security was always on me. Make sure you're always challenging yourself and learning. Keep up with new trends in your field. Join a professional association and go to local meetings. As long as you do those things, you won't have to worry about clinging to some mythical job where you work 30 years and get a golden watch.

When I was interviewing, most companies only cared about what you worked on at work, not what you did on your own.

And you can't control the projects you're assigned to or what technology they use at work.

I'm not saying you have to constantly job hop. You can be a GM lifer, but if you suddenly get let go after 20 years you can feel secure that you have the necessary skills to market yourself in another job.

All people have job hopped but there comes a point in your life when you get tired of doing that, all of the points you made are good ones and true to a point. It really depends on how well you kiss a-- I would assume and boy does that exist well..everywhere.

What you are saying is start your own business.
