Does anyone know why GM have people in Dublin IT? The people there travel all over the world First class, they spend millions of dollars in just travel and squeeze people from trainings and basic needs everywhere. Does any one have insight?

They should merge "TB" (GT) and "GJ" (GI) into one position - IT Infrastructure. Too many CIOs and Directors underneath. Funny how small domains each Director has. There is a O365 director and a Director for Video Conferencing and another for one part of the network and another for bottom part of the network. It is ridiculous, these Directors should be shown the door.
I got an email a few weeks back asking for people in IT to submit for an internal transfers to a new AI/self driving car program. It said you must be on site. The locations were Detroit... OK makes sense, it's the HQ. Then it said Austin... OK sure, they have a big IT presence, Randy Mott is there. Third location was Ireland. WTF.
Atlanta has Georgia Tech grads. Phoenix is a hub for self driving car testing. WTF does Ireland have besides a far off timezone to screw up collaboration.
This one has always baffled me. It's a sure fire way to make sure executive and leaders are extremely disconnected. "TB" (GT) and "GJ" (GI) are some of the worst leaders I've ever seen. They elevate themselves above the majority of people and generate a narrative that GM has the best IT across the board of any Fortune 100. Any dissension is met with swift retaliation.
It's obvious Randy likes these guys because they are completely dedicated and loyal to him. None of them would ever disrupt or really care about the organizations that they lead. Any logical person doesn't put CIO's (I mean executive directors... senior managers at any other normal company) in a totally different country.
They certainly are not enough business value given the Dublin cost to GM. Directors and hundreds of staff there are bully to their teams here in Warren. They spend the entire budget travel training on Ireland guys. Look at how many people are sponsored for College there vs Warren.
It took a team of 100+ Deloitte consultants 6+ months to undo the damage that RM did at HP. A lot of what was put in at GM was a carbon copy of what went in at HP - very outdated to say the least. Doubt GM really cares about having world class IT services.
The Dublin Directors and teams are RM’s Jingle Bells. They spend Millions in flying back and forth to Warren/Austin. IT infrastructure stuff is such a commodity these days. Those extra spend may justify if they did something niche, which they are not capable of. Only way to clean this mess is if at the CEO/CFO level they call for an audit firm to come in to dig into it.
I overheard the Dublin Director w/ the goatee walking in Warren referring to his team as a bunch of old f*cks. He's a real class act
There's a Dublin office so Randy Mott can take frequent vacations...um... "business trips" to Ireland.
Look for them to open offices in Hawaii and Tahiti next.
Ireland office is subjective with Randy Mott, personal agenda. It has no objective view from an overall GM perspective. Things like this will destroy GM in the long run. Got to be laser focused.
I worked with the team in Ireland and they are amazing.
It turns out that GM is a global company and that people outside the US is also good at programming.
I am glad I quit GM, it is full of hateful, racist, xenophobic dinosaurs.
I think they came in with RM. I have not heard good things about them
Looks like there are a lot of level 8s and level 9s over there. Way to send American jobs overseas GM!
I know the hard facts on this and the Ireland government is offering very generous tax incentives for every new hire in Dublin. The truth of it is the leadership we have over there is horrible and the staff mostly spend hours upon hours practicing for meetings with upper management and Randy. Based on experience working closely with them, nobody would miss them if they were gone.
GM should shutdown Ireland operations.
They do a lot of system integration work in Ireland.
I think GIF team sits over there.
I dunno why they need a team in Ireland for IT.
Better time shift?
Cheaper
Work on stuff thats easier to handle in Eur eg gdrp
It seems they are hiring there to replace employees in Detroit.
I don’t know. People say they are geniuses that US or Detroit doesn’t have. They seems to be doing Off the selves stuff that anyone off the street could honestly do. Why is GM spending so much money there. They made an entire data center, millions of dollars there with NO GM office in EMEA just to support the team. No objectivity in my opinion.
What the FK
Ireland! What the hell for?
