Thread regarding Nordstrom layoffs

When's the next big layoff round at corporate in Seattle?

Do you sit in a cube, working on a computer all day? Are you paid more than $100,000 for doing this?

Does struggling Nordstrom really need 1,000+ expensive people to run these IT systems?

Are there really new features to "write" for mobile apps, the web store, etc at this point? Can most of this stuff just roll over to an inexpensive support team right about now?

There's a great big target on your back. Best of luck to you.

Nordstrom layoffs at their corporate HQ in downtown Seattle continue this week... It's been heart-wrenching to see so many good people get strung along and tortured with the fear of losing their job at any minute. This speaks volumes to how Nordstrom has failed to lead their organization. For those employees who stayed, RUN! This machine is shutting down fast. My money, nor my footprint will continue to be invested here.

All of these systems are up and running. Is RMS 9 still in use? Its code will run forever.

Not much to do now with these things in place, much of them even in the cloud.

Dress Barn is shutting down, all stores. Retail is doomed, just as Nordstrom opens a colossal mistake in midtown.

Try a day without phone, computer, internet... Then try to get 80,000 people to do the same thing...

Then take some paper, a pen and try to calculate payroll for all of them. Once done, take a few million SKUs and try to do a bit of procurement.

Once done, take a big notebook and write down all inventory items, log them using a nicely sharpened pencil.

It'll take you about 42 years to do this - so once you are done, go back and find each employee and ask them what they sold, write it down too, it'll be a few million items right there.

Voila! You are now ready for retirement.
