Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Why have so many of good people left?

Will things ever get better, or will SF just become a thing of the past? Maybe they will sell us off to the Chinese.

I left after 11 years because I got a job two hours north of Bloomington that paid me $40K more per year for doing the same position I was doing in Bloomington. Is the cost of living up here higher than BloNo? Sure. It costs a lot to live somewhere people actually want to live.

That being said, most of the friends I had at The Farm who were my age or younger have left the company. They left for MUCH higher pay and increased opportunity at the insurance company across town, they left because they didn't want to work for a company they felt didn't trust them to be adults and do their job no matter where they worked, they left because they saw what happened to the generation of employees before us who were promised "lifetime job security" only to get canned because they were too expensive.

I'm still a State Farm customer because they are the best insurer out there. I wouldn't go back to work there even if you gave me an office on the 12th floor and paid me $40M a year.

They left when they were told their office was closing...

We are leaving because our office is closing at the end of August and you would think the harassment, intimidation, and discrimination...would ease up on us right, it hasn't, in fact it's become worse! Management are truly Psychopath's I firmly believe they are Psychopath's. They are enjoying torturing us...til the end.

We have three months left before we are going to collect a ton of severance pay so at this point if they try anything we would have a such a lawsuit against them, and yet the harassment, intimidation, and discrimination...continues....oh yeah "they" are going to watch us til the end okay fine whatever but please stop with the harassment, intimidation, and discrimination...

Because really what is the point ? That is unless you are all Psychopath's! This is why I would run so far away from working at State Farm because the company is being run by Psychopath's.

Burnout is now recognized by the WHO as an official medical diagnosis:

They left because State Farm doesn’t want “good” employees any more and SF made that very clear. SF is an average insurance company and below average employer.

They left when they were told their office was closing...

They left when they realized the "new model" was nothing it was sold as...

They left when their departments and jobs were eliminated...

They left when they were given involuntary reassignments and unreasonable job offers...

They left after being forced out with endless harassment, intimidation, and discrimination...

They left when they felt there was nothing left to do except resign in disgust!

It turns out, most people don't like being worked to death. The rich, out of touch, and selfish execs/CEO have decided the best business model is to abuse workers like disposable robots to do all the dirty and hard work, while they take most of the credit (or pass blame to the employees for the failures), and hoard as much money for the company and themselves. People have been making major sacrifices to their health and families to stay employed here. People wake up to that reality, decide it isn't worth it, and then they leave. That is if they haven't been forced out.

By the way, there are a lot of comments on this board from apparently young employees who call displaced and burned out employees dead weight, dinosaurs, and so on. They do not understand the hard work and loyalty given to this company by so many dedicated employees. The company was good to them, and they in turn gave it their all in return, but then got knifed in the back. Some younger people just haven't recognized what is happening here is unsustainable in the long run. Young employees should really take notice to how the company treats its people, both young and old. Yeah, it's great to have a new and exciting opportunity when just entering the workforce. But is this what you want as you form a career for yourself? Because if you haven't noticed, you will just be deemed incompetent and cast out of the workforce when the company burns you out (and you too will burnout if things do not change). A majority of people who start out now will never make it 5, 10, 15, 20, or more years as the employees did in the past.
