WSJ: Defense Companies Need to Merge or Die. L3-Harris could be bought by Boeing

What is everyone's take on the WSJ article about L3-Harris being acquired by Boeing?

"For instance, Honeywell International (HON), Boeing (BA), and General Dynamics (GD) could be in a position to pursue deals with three smaller defense businesses: submarine maker Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), electronics supplier L3Harris Technologies (LHX), and bomber manufacturer Northrop Grumman (NOC)."

If this is true, then it explains the rush with business divestitures. The timeline seems to be very aggressive. Within 6-months they want to get rid of majority of non-core businesses.

"I think a big company like Boeing could have bought L3 or Harris but not this new thing." - L3Harrris has no future as a business entity. Even such big entity like UTC - $80 billion - decided to merge with Raytheon. L3Harrris exists only for personal gains of executives.

I think a big company like Boeing could have bought L3 or Harris but not this new thing. But if I really knew I'd be at my beach house in La Jolla and not perusing this crummy old forum looking for good rumors.

The Max and raising cash for a good buy have nothing in common. Boeing has a huge backlog and can leverage a good issue to buy L3Harris. That is why it's immediately important that the purge of wasted levels of the corporation are taken out, redundant or obsolete businesses are jettisoned before this can be approached. I would predict that salary at all levels but high and medium need to be let go to reduce cost and improve the bottom line by reduction of G & A, of course lower paid salary need to go also to streamline, however without a increases in sales L3Harris would position itself in a excellent position to be sold again within the next year. Yes that means a few get to walk away with some large amounts of money, but that will happen no matter what, that is our system.

If that's the case, then Honeywell International (HON) is a potential buyer. A few years ago they wanted to acquire UTC for $80 billion dollars but the offer was rejected. Honeywell International is a financially stable company with enough cash to buy l3harris. They had enough cash to make UTC an offer.

Considering the MAX and 87 issues, Boeing is in no financial condition to acquire anything unless it is by arbitrage.

There are three potential buyers of l3harris. Read the article. Boeing is one of them.

It's specific - Honeywell International (HON), Boeing (BA), and General Dynamics (GD) could be in a position to pursue deals with three smaller defense businesses including L3Harris Technologies (LHX).
