Promoted to Fresh Cap 1 Supervisor

  • What am doing wrong.

  • How can I better organize my crew so we can do better.

3weeks ago I was promoted to fresh cap 1 supervisor.

Every day we get 9 to 13 pallets produce, 2 pallets fresh meat, 2 pallets bakery, 2 pallets frozen meat and deli, 1 pallet refrigerated deli.

1 person does 2 pallets fresh meat, cap bins, fill wall... we get done around 12p

1 person does 2 pallets bakery, cap bins, fill floor... we get done around 1230p

1 person does 2 pallets frozen meat and deli... we don't get done

1 person does breakdown in produce... we don't get done (I help out in produce)

1 person throws freight in produce... we don't get done

Cap2 gets 5 people Every night, the supervisor and 1 for bakery deli, 1 for meat, 2 for produce. They complain about having to help get done.

DMs refuse to throw freight and say its not their job.

I have 8 people on my crew.

With days off it comes to 5 a day.

7 of my 8 have worked for Wal-Mart less than 6 months.

My assistant and co tell me my crew is slow and all need to be coached for productivity.

I think we don't have enough people and they say I should be able to get it done with 4 people a day.

What am doing wrong.

How can I better organize my crew so we can do better.

Fresh cap 2 here.. I can't say anything for your store specifically, but over here fc2 is lucky to have two people the full shift (I'm alone in 4 depts most nights) we didn't have a supervisor till today and guaranteed they will be all over the store as a closing support manager, rather than managing my dwindling crew. We get told that we don't do our work, but what am I to do when two part timers leave by 5 and I'm alone till 10 with freight left over from the 5 people (supervisor actually gets to work with our fc1, from what I was told by said person), of which three + the dept manager were in produce. Bakery and deli freight gets ignored, and when we pick it up we get told off for not focussing on the two.major departments of meat/produce, which are usually emptying out by time we come in. If we have two or more people, its a friggen miracle. Ground beef, bananas n lettuce, cheesecake and pizza/drinks are the most selling things in those four depts for us.

We're losing people left and right. 1 more is about to transfer. Others are blocked from working Sunday.
This coming Sunday it's apt to be me and 3 people to work ALL Fresh depts. BS to that. And I'll start telling them that tomorrow.

I currently got promoted to cap1 supervisor
I usually have 3 ppl in produce on a good day if not I always help in produce cull at 4am then begin to help work carts while 1 person is breaking down the pallets and loading carts to stock , they usually finish capping by 9 I have one person in meats and 1 in bakery/deli , on the most part not saying the other departments don’t matter but produce and meats are your money makers so priority departments to get done ,

sounds like an on-hand issue you are getting more freight than your store needs. Team with the DM are they zeroing there on-hands daily if they are off you need to zero on-hands on outs. are your features set correctly and are they on feature all of these things effect freight flow. also if any mods were set lately where the caps adjusted to what will fit on the shelf no truck should be that large.

if you have 8 then, 2 in meats, 1 in bakery, 1 in deli and 4 in produce. if any lesser than that then get someone out of produce. I can guarantee that you will be done before 9 including capping. if they are slow then you work with them and explain why productivity needs to be improved.

It seems you are not alone. Usually we have 1 person in meat, 1 in deli, 1 in bakery, maybe 4 in produce. We don't have but maybe 2 TC70s, and a c-appy MC40. To make labels we have to use the old Telxons. We are lucky and might finish produce and meat by 12:30, but usually the bakery doesn't get finished. Cap 2 has little supervision and they don't stock anything but bananas, CVP, and make boxes of food donations. It seems we have fewer people on Thursdays when the warehouse distros their excess freight.
