Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Rumor in Schenectady

That there will be another round of layoffs if this contract passes. That has been the chatter on the floor. Does any other management or union members have any other insight in this?

Thanks

1ogl- You must be the brightest union representative in 273. There is no mega deal- yes GE landed a little work from overseas but it will be made in India. The only reason GE Power got some work is because the United States Government convinced the overseas order holder. That GE still has a quality product. I might also add this GE’s biggest competitor landed most of the work and they still had a large layoff last month.

Mega deal to rebuild Iraq’s power grid / systems was signed early last month. Six generators going to Poland and the rest are going to Schenectady SPL .

At szq I call BS on your post. There is no way the demand for that many. The company is not going to burn up that much cash. They are trying to reduce the FCF. If so then why would you want the membership to vote yes if they have that much work?

Your either living a pipe dream or your management to convince the members to vote yes. Keep dreaming

ZP9JwUM-ogh..... Exactly, the Union has the upper hand for once, and we need to use that advantage to the fullest. This B.S. contract is more like a company proclamation than anything. There telling us that we're peasants that don't deserve the sc-aps that they drudingly offer.

Nobody in Schenectady has the balls to Strike. GE and NY in general has neutered everyone in Schenectady!

If the workload is REALLY up then NOW is the time for the Union to flex. Strike is a dirty word but getting back what has been taken over the years may seem possible. (D guy talking here).

There will be RIF’s either way, outcome of the contract vote doesn’t matter.

36 generators next year shells already ordered and steam workload is more than doubled for 2020.
