Thread regarding GlobalFoundries layoffs

Heard from my old buds back at Malta that there have been several high level technical people (contributors and managers) that have left in the last couple of weeks and there seem to be more in the works as the summer rolls on. Likely going to be replaced with some really cheap INCGs-which Is all they are hiring these days. Pretty soon, the whole place will look like an extension of the EE department at RIT.

The NY Dept of Labor should really investigate that place for age discrimination (same guys running it that got in trouble at IBM for the same thing).

Considering the powers that be always manage to screw up a critical decision, im expecting theyll still keep the highly paid but useless people and carefully select some key players to lay off because theyre making the useless ones look bad.

Word on the street my brothers (or more appropriately. on the transversely striped stick-on floor tiles) is that with the new Grand PooBah in charge of Fab8, there be some high level actions coming sometime late in the quarter of 3. This should be interesting.

(or at least that's what I am hearing from my old colleagues back in Malta.)

I'm well aware of the Rule of 75. What I wondered is, since I definitely meet the Rule of 75, why wasn't I a target? I'm apparently not in the target occupational group. I'd take a package offered from them and seek employment elsewhere, but management is still making the worst possible decisions, I see. The place is really going to turn around with a bunch of inexperienced new college grads manning the ropes. Experienced, valuable employees are encouraged/forced to leave, yet the real problem - the horrible IBM management, whom I wouldn't trust to operate an ice cream stand in the summertime - is still solidly in place. Malta's future sure looks bright.

I think it is targeted at engineers following the "Rule of 75" as known in the forced early retirement parlance.

Decision for what? Early retirement? I meet the criteria - 55 been with IBM/GF since I was 21. I think I am definitely an older higher-paid tech. I got no email.
