Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

This is only the tip of the iceberg

Is it possible responses to 'The PepsiCo Way' survey calling out multiple IT issues and failures under JD's tenure, i.e. the move toward a shared services approach, the last couple years are now just starting to be acknowledged? The dysfunction we've seen is only the tip of the iceberg if her approach continues. Sure, she can sway metrics to make it look like the changes are contributing to the bottom line but when you ask the masses about their experiences, it's a completely different story. It takes time to turn a large vessel as it approaches a storm. Is it possible PepsiCo's captain sees what lies beyond the horizon and is considering an alternate direction?

Good questions from @ZJEMf4j-1eop.

The only reason they gave us that Digital Fitness app is so that we can't sue them for not training us or keeping our skillset modernized. Everything they do "for the employee" is to protect them in lawsuits.

The digital fitness app is a perfect example of how IT leadership knows nothing about current technologies. Most content on it is just buzzwords and nothing in depth.

Also they are hyping up SAP Hana like it’s going to solve all the problems.

As a local IT contractor who gets hired back from time to time to undo the disasters that "managed services" causes or solve problems they are unable to solve, I would certainly concur with the observations from the previous reply. Unfortunately, when it comes to senior IT management you truly do need analytical-minded "rock stars" who have insight into choosing the right technology, people, methods, etc. To be honest, most of the so-called "IT leadership" folks are glorified bookkeepers who are completely oblivious to current technology and think that they are managing an assembly line. No software company that I've ever been a part of would hire them - for anything. They just don't seem to understand that even if a competent local FTE or contractor is 2x the cost of a typical "managed services" drone, that local person can be 5x more productive when you factor in the extra mistakes that they don't make and the stupid things that they don't do.

IT services s---ed under her predecessor too. Expensive, slow, outdated and unable to change. I mean, WTF is BIS? It's IT. All of the unnecessary customization, a global SAP program that ran for years and still have less than 50% of the revenue running on SAP, etc. The only difference now is that they've axed the people who know anything about the systems, so you have the mo--ns in India who are tasked with keeping the ship afloat.

The only way to fix it now is to modernize the systems and get things on off-the-shelf software. Otherwise there's no way to support it.
