I got a 0. But I already knew I wasn't happy and am looking elsewhere. There is life outside of IBM.

Interesting that it misses the really important indicators of both success and satisfaction, things like:

  • I have appropriate control over my work and environment [this is one is absolutely fundamental to employee satisfaction]

  • I am provided with the resources needed to do the job required of me

  • Supporting organizations, processes, and business controls are set up to promote success

And most of all, as many of us keep saying: the biggest satisfaction issue is that every time we look around us we see armies of people performing completely useless "admin" and "review" and "status reporting" and "social marketing" (to name but a few) tasks, and in the process creating all kinds of make-work for the rest of us just so that they can look busy. If these people did nothing at all, it would actually be a blessed relief!

The irony of this board is that IBM really does need a lot of layoffs. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be able to lay off the right people, the overhead and process and admin people. Many of them are not even middle managers: many of them are individual "contributors", except that their "contribution" is to send us yet another checklist to fill out in order that some director can report to their VP that they achieved 100% in checklist completion.

I had everything as a No with the exception of the four below. 1, 2 and 4 I'd give five points, on the third line I'd put 3... So (3 x 5) + (1 * 3) = 16... So my score is 16...

  • I will stay in this organization for the next 12 months.

  • I am happy with the quality of my output.

  • I am satisfied with the product my company produces.

  • The working environment is comfortable.

This is laughable if it is truly a survey.
