Here in the Houston area almost all cashier's were "displaced". We are down to 4 Technicians and 1 cashier ( not sure how much longer we have her ) . Now we are being informed that shortly pharmacies in our district will be closing for lunch every day from 1:30 to 2:00. So with that happening, more than likely they will be changing the hours of operation for the pharmacy. Thought it was just Houston area but now I see it's all over the country...

They fired both cashiers and a Pharmacist today! They also fired 6 Pharmaciats in our district .Our profits are as good if not better then they always were. I can't imagine us doing as well now with one pharmacist and the same work load, sounds like a recipe for disaster.

It is a shame, this company used to be good to work for, they used to care about their employees as well as the customer. Now it is more about the money, making their quarterly financials look good for the stockholders. Any one of us that has a pension fund are partly to blame.

This comes at a time when we are supposed to go the extra mile to prevent o---id abuse. Also increasing our immunization numbers (we all know it takes no more time than a regular pr-scrip-ion) and now coming is clinical servicing for a fee, A1C etc.

More responsibility and time consuming activities with less time given to do it.

Some posts suggest a walk out, unionization, protests. Who is going to start, most of us need our jobs and won’t risk getting fired. With all the new grads out there we are easily replaced.

The glut, in my opinion, was the direct result of corporate planning. Walmart, rite aid, CVS Walgreens and others funded colleges to create new schools of pharmacy. Flood the market and drive wages down.

The hours in my store were cut but no lay off.

Where are the Boards of Pharmacy in this. I realize that they do not interfere in a companies business decisions but they are supposed to protect the public. The increased work load placed on pharmacy creates a dangerous situation. The boards should also protect the people they govern, I know many pharmacy personnel who have started anti anxiety and anti depressant d--gs due to the workloads

My 2 cents

I am also wondering if they are done laying off people and if anyone has been laid off in Mississippi. I couldn't sleep last night worrying if I would be called in the back today and laid off as well. This is just truly messed up beyond belief. I feel so awful for everyone.

I am a PCSM who was displaced after my shift Monday. I fortunately get to keep my 80 hour salary and am in the rotation as a staff pharmacist. What is even more unfortunate is that this was planned for a while. Home office could have done a better job softening the blow. I cannot say why exactly this is occurring but I am certain DIR fees are somewhat to blame. If you do not know about these fees, which if you are a tech you probably don’t, the industry as a whole is being shredded by them with MPD plans. There are plenty of times we dispense medications and do not even get paid for the cost of the medication let alone the cost of filling them. CMS even reports a 45,000% increase in DIR fees in the last 7 years I believe. Most of these fees do not even lower the cost of the medication for the patient and are collected retroactively...months after dispensing. Until this problem is fixed, get used to this being the new norm. If any interns are reading, apply to medical school. If any students want my become a pharmacist, don’t. You will not get a job that could ever pay back your student loans. I shudder when I hear pharmacists brag how their children get into pharmacy school. I do not know how you wouldn’t try to talk your child out of this dismal profession.

My friend who is due to give birth in 2 weeks was laid off today in Tennessee. She too was giving 60 days to find another job

But she's going on maternity or was going on maternity leave in a week or so. I felt so bad for her. She's a young pharmacist and pregnant. 2 days ago another pharmacist I know was laid off after all these years woth walmart and in the medical field.

pharmacists make over $100k per year, why? to double check bottles of pills and labels? to double check order entry? to counsel patients on medications? IMHO Im and pharmacist and we're overpaid and don't really have to work to hard. The only thing protecting pharmacists is the law. Techs should be paid more. they actually do all of the work!

I was a part time staff pharmacist at Walmart in Spokane, WA. I got laid off on Tuesday - my story is very similar to pretty much all posts here. Computer selected, restructuring, etc. I am at the end of my career and I should be fine, will figure something to bridge me to 11/1 when I plan to retire. I am so sorry for all younger folks that have to deal with all of this. All the best.

I have left Walmart for six years now. All I can say is your only hope is to unionize. Not just Walmart. All companies. This is NOT to protect pharmacy staff but the patients they serve. There is a good reason they are scared of unions!

Lost digital engagement hours (around 40 hours). 150 support hours now for 1400 scripts a week. Both cashiers were “randomly displaced” to find other jobs. Leaves 4 full time techs, 2 part time. FL

We lost our lead manager today and he had decades of experience in the medical field!! They did him so dirty, our input is already off the charts daily and now with presumably only one other pharmacist patients are going to be driven away or even put at risk, this is how you know Walmart cares about nothing but money when they are willing to make patients SUFFER and leave veteran employees who loved them out on the curb!

It's true....I was a pharmacy technician at Walmart and just got axed today. I did get to keep my pay rate and they are looking for another position for me within the store. They said it's not relative to performance...the only real info they provided is that it's due to the restructuring.

I agree with the post below, we need to act, but how? I’ve been emailing all the local new agencies of this situation.

Just found out yesterday that our store rph hours are being cut by 40 hours. This will cause at least one or more rph's to float around in the market to meet their base hours. This is just horrible! RPH's really need to get more vocal and start organizing otherwise these situations will continue to occur. We should just not show up to work one day and maybe then corporate America and the public will see how vital a role we play in their lives. We need to advocate for our profession before it gets worse! If this happened to other professions, like teachers, nurses ,and even dr's, their unions and associations would be all over the news and up in arms. We need to act!

Does anyone know how the ones laid off were picked? I read reports that it was a computer, but honestly, did the MHWD not have a say in this? Did they do a random pick, in order to avoid discrimination lawsuits? Is anyone going to HR about this?

It's business. That's what it's always been. If you give it all your effort, if you foster these delusional notions of "loyalty" and "110%", you'll only be disappointed in the end. Please don't go out of your way to be an "exceptional" employee for this company, or to stay longer than needed to find a better job. Not only do they not deserve it, but at this point, such exertion just doesn't make sense from any rational perspective.
