GE accidentally makes the case for not owning smart GE bulbs

Anyone that’s ever dabbled in smart home tech knows that part of the experience involves an eventual reset. Having trouble with your C by GE bulbs? No worries, just follow these simple instructions as spotted by Josh Jordan:

Turn on for 8 seconds

Turn off for 2 seconds

Turn on for 8 seconds

Turn off for 2 seconds

Turn on for 8 seconds

Turn off for 2 seconds

Turn on for 8 seconds

Turn off for 2 seconds

Turn on for 8 seconds

Turn off for 2 seconds

Turn on

Did the bulb flash three times? Maybe you mistimed one of the 11 steps. GE recommends counting with “one Mississippi, two Mississippi, three Miss

Or maybe you have an older version of the C by GE bulb. You did keep the original packaging for reference? It could also be a case of running older firmware on the newer bulbs.

Here, try this instead, and don’t forget those Mississippis:

Turn on for 8 seconds

Turn off for 2 seconds

Turn on for 2 seconds

Power off for 2 seconds

Turn on for 2 seconds

Power off for 2 seconds

Turn on for 2 seconds

Power off for 2 seconds

Turn on for 8 seconds

Power off for 2 seconds

Turn on for 8 seconds

Power off for 2 seconds

Turn on

See, that wasn’t so bad. At least it’s not a Samsung smart TV that requires you to run a virus scan every two weeks.

And the beat goes on. Despite countless training programs ( Six Sigma,Lean mfg. etc) yet another embarrassment for GE. Recently retired from GE Lighting and don't miss the lack of expertise and leadership required to lead in the lighting business. We were way behind in technology and our new products were antiquated when they did hit the market. Who even let this product hit the market? Next leadership training course should be USING COMMON SENSE. I guess it doesn't matter as the GE answer is to sell a business they can't run successfully. They are not committed to producing an industry leading product you can be proud of. I suspect from what I hear and read many of GE businesses suffer the same issues. JMHO

What are the chances a CAShole did NOT produce that instructional video?

Ridiculously late to the party with a substandard offering. I chose LIFX over Hue years ago (both good products). Then, with plenty of other competition GE finally shows up. Another failure in motion.

No one ever asks the GE designer to "design it as if you had to use it." These design fails can be found in nearly every GE product, including Healthcare's diagnostic imaging software and Power's turbine controls. Even some of the GE Rail locomotives had weird control interfaces, especially the Evolution series.

You should fire the designer who proposed this design, fire the engineer for implementing this design, fire the manager who approved this design, and fire the VP who hired the stupid manager.

(Use the first reset sequence if:

Your bulbs are running on firmware version 2.8 or later (you can find your bulb firmware version by tapping on the device in your C by GE app).

We recommend counting with Mississippi (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi, etc.).
