GED was a viable concept in theory, even if market size predictions by JI were clearly vaporware. Despite abundance of real software talent on the floor – lured away from the labor pool by the promise of GE legend -- GED never had a viable product strategy and could never cascade it down as a coherent product development plan. Also, GED leaders never knew what it took to engineer successful commercial software. It was clearly a case of massive leadership failure.
