Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Veterans Discount Being Quietly Eliminated!

Confirmed: The phased elimination of the 10% Veterans Discount has begun. It’s now 5% off any item with a promo. Final step is total elimination!

Get ready for some pi==ed off veterans.

Another failed move by Ellison & company.

You don’t make a big PR announcement about how you’re pro veteran, tell all the veterans they’re getting 10% off everything, everyday, then take it back!

Another block of the customer base that will be gone!

Veterans Don’t Forget.

What pisses me off is esp with the older veterans who have money to spend, but maybe aren’t that computer knowledgeable and we No longer help them sign up in store. Tell them go home to signu up or for those that say they don’t have computer tell them to go to Library. CService/mgmt say new systems don’t have option any more. I don’t believe it, I f I said I’ll give you a million dollars to sign this vet up now, I bet they could!

They are doing everything they can to keep sales margins high, we also hardly had any weekly ads this year with much stuff from my departments.

As a Cashier, the one word I hear all day long is ‘Military!”. If that gets eliminated, there will be total hell to pay. This company is so mismanaged and CHEAP!

Just ran across the stupid comment by a clueless person here who signed as "Lame " (good name for that person.) The reason stated for a veteran and a relative not deserving of a military discount is a very good indication of that person being Lame as anyone in the military or who has served their country knows! Where else but in the military do you obligate by and sign your life away for a period of time to go into a combat area if so assigned by a manager to do so no questions or refusal except in extreme circumstances that could and should lead to a lifetime of results such as jail or even capital punishment in rare circumstances. The person signing the contract is subject to the contract by law to defend your country to the death. His or her spouse suffers daily knowing their loved one is under that contract do defend many who are Lame and Clueless.

Because of the veteran's discount, I purchase from Lowe's weekly while Home Depot gets none of my business. There will be no incentive to favor Lowe's over HD anymore. Business lost.

I still shop at Home Depot and have yet to be denied of a military discount..even as of last week. I show them my ID and they override it...no questions asked.

Corporate math department here. If we charge 1/15th of our customers 10% more then profit goes up .00666 of 1% overall.

It’s not evil at all.

Of course we aren’t sure how the other 14/15ths of our customers will feel about us after the change, but we do math not feelings.

In Marvin we trust.

When I worked there they took away one or two small but appreciated perks each year. List follows thusly: Easter Sunday off, turkey at thanksgiving, 10% over cost on special order items, holiday payout, employee celebration meals, quarterly bonus, commissions, attainable SSEI, wrap around weekends at vacations, loss prevention celebrations, spiffs, and a couple others.

Then they eliminated department managers, two rounds of ASM cuts, PSI, PSI and PSE support staff, delivery in some markets, full time positions are being cut daily, LP is gone, HR too.

IF EVERY TIME YOU NEED TO BOOST PROFIT YOU CUT SOMETHING, EVENTUALLY ALL YOU CAN CUT ARE SERVICE AND CUSTOMER PERKS!!!

Hey Marvin why don’t you just buy better and throw service at the problem. I 100% guarantee the problem will solve itself. Eh, never mind, in this job market you’ll never find good staff.

I am a Vet and refused to wear the vest, pins, name tag etc... from the very beginning. I refused to be a marketing / advertising tool. I was actually asked if I was proud of my service (market person) and I told them if Lowes was proud of my service they would be giving me 20% off everyday instead of once a year. Once again Lowes roles something out without thinking...… Everyone and their mother has a Vets (your choice of expletive here) phone number now. If getting rid of the discount is true and not being reworked somehow instead, this is one of the biggest nails corporate will be putting in the coffin so far. Honestly, we should be giving a 20% discount to active duty personnel and their spouses. Stores near a military base should have corporate pick up the tab on the dash 7 or whatever they call that report.

Who cares?? Veterans discount is a joke and 95% of them don’t deserve it anyways. Some “veteran” who “served” 35 years ago worked in a cafeteria making sloppy joes and French fries deserves a “military discount” in 2019?? GTFOH..... nobody should get the discount. It’s should be the same across the board otherwise first responders etc should be getting it as well for at least most of them make an actual difference. 99% of the armed forces never even see combat so all they’re really serving is themselves a paycheck.
