A really nice and uplifting story. Until you realize it is a sad reminder of how IBM has fallen.

Too bad 3 50 year old guys can't rescue IBM from being a mainframe company!

Hopefully IBM don't find out otherwise they will seize it. Rebrand it "Watson 360 - Model 20 for Cloud", and launch a new strategic imperative. It will be Rometty's next "Moon shot".

The 2020 designation meant it was a second generation computer "2". Model "020"... thus the 2020 id. This IBM 360/20 circa 1964 processor probably had total core storage of about 32k shared by 3 batch partitions F1, F2, and BG... no virtual storage yet or Spooling which meant if the computer processed input from a card reader the output was physically directed to a line printer or a punch card device at the same time....it looks like the configuration also included a 029 keypunch machine to create input into the system 360 model 020 by 5081 80 column cards; a 2501 card reader, 1403 line " print train" driven line printer; 2415 mag tape series; probably 800 bpi output density and a 1052 operator console "electric" ball

typewriter system communication device... I was just a kid in my teens fresh out of high school when introduced to this mysterious new world and it provide a solid base of how the principles of the electronics work at their lowest level....
