Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Are people really that afraid of the introduction of new technologies?

I tend to think that people that are debating on this site are exaggerating, regarding the influence that new technologies will have on our jobs and our job security in the near future?Would like to get some opinions on how much are people really afraid of that on a daily basis and do people really panic to that extent as it is presented on this site?

That is funny. They tell employees to use their own phones to look things up. Well the employees use their phone alright to text their friends and play on their phones. Technology good idea. Not all the time.

Mark Zuckerberg thinks every human being should be paid for being human each month and businesses that use technology should be taxed for it.

We need a new retail chain. Sometimes change can bargain with starting new. Anyone have any money and interest?

Those handheld are great and give you an abundance of information however there are never enough to go around so luckily some of the employees can do things the old fashion way without them. Intelligence is not always technology.

Pretty funny that Walmart employees are worried about being replaced by robots. Do you not realize how incredibly inept this company is when it comes to technology? Have you ever tried to use the "wire" or the new improved "onewire" LOL!! How about shopping on their website? Yea bring on the robots, that should be a good laugh...

Technology is a great thing. However there comes a time when technology seems to help business owners more than the workers. I've been with Walmart for 30 years. I can remember how difficult it was before new tools and processes. There has been a reduction in staff through the years as technology made their jobs no longer necessary. I have seen a store go from over 300 associates to under 150. Technology made many jobs easier. But in a small community where Walmart is the main work place, technology can be the enemy. A store I know is going from 20 registers to 5. The rest will be self checkout. Use to cashier was the safest place to be. After all you have to have cashiers, right? Wrong. No job is safe anymore. In the long run technology will be the down fall of some great companies. Not just Walmart. But others as well. The desire for more profit will be too strong. And more job losses will help with their profits. But when the small communities start to feel the effects of job losses, and people are forced to seek employment elsewhere, some people will move to where jobs are. Stores in these communities will feel it. And profits will go down due to loss of sales. Then these stores that were once highly profitable will ultimately meet their doom and be closed, thanks to technology.

Nobody is afraid of tech the problem is cutting out of people to help the customers just look at Chickfila tons of employees fast service looks extremely over staffed but no matter how busy they are customers keep coming back because they have the people to help them
