we don't need anyother jobs that includes machinists , carpenters , millwrights , mold makers or spare parts when we can save thousands of dollars per part with additive manufacturing

Its just a lot simpler to just have things automated

The more we argue amongst ourselves, the more the Company wins. It's ok to have fun with other crafts, but at the end of the day, all we have is one another. Unions are ONLY as strong as the men/women INVOLVED in them. Let's use these last few years of the comapny showing us what/they truly care about as motivation. Let's come together as a unified group and shove it to them this next negotiation. If the people we elected dont do us justice then we vote their asses out too. We owe it to ourselves and the next generation of Railroaders to not let this fall apart on our watch. Do you wanna be remembered as the weak unions that let it all come crashing down, or the one that FINALLY came together and made a change. Come on brothers and sisters, let's unify. #newwave!

If my location us any indicator you IAM guys aren't worth sh--. Most guys sign off worked they never did and stand around engines or sit in groups in cabs sleeping watching sh-- on phones or just doing about anything but work.... only electrical you know is change a cab lightbulb. Not too mention you had a horrible derailment rate as I recall before laborers were given the job. I bet none of you lousy machinists are gonna be routing to be the only workers the first time one of the toilets needs work either. Youll be crying for the loss of sheet metal more than the smell.

I heard the same thing regarding electricians from a locomotive foreman when I asked why every person they sent to go work on a locomotive got lost. Said all the decent electricians could make more money elsewhere and left. If it was bad back then I can only imagine how recruiting is going now...

UP has trouble keeping electricians because a true IBEW electrician sees that working on a locomotive is like the bottom level of electrical work. Throw in working nights with wednesday and thursday off, a bad manager. Its not worth staying. He/she could make more with a better work schedule outside the rr. Machinists average pay is less outside railroads so they don't leave no matter how bad the get treated.

Electricians are overrated, don't need them. Machinist is the only true craft Up needs. These are not house these are machines that need servicing. Machinist can do it all, if upper managment and Omaha was smart they would see this.
