Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Fired after eight years

Was fired today by Lowe’s after a customer complaint. Customer came into store wanted a piece of mirror glass cut then gave the measurement in meters told customer we only use inches or feet customer ask me if I was stupid then started to walk away and said to me to go f myself then denied he said it. I then refused to help him when a manager ask if I was going to help the customer and I said no and explained why. So today got called back to the managers office and was told I was being fired so they believed the customer and did not take my side and said they had investigated the incident but would not show my anything and asked me to sign the paperwork and told them to stuff up there a* and go f them selves. So just want to warn everyone the company does not support you and will always take the customers side even if they are a total liars!!! Think everyone should call of on Memorial Day to show Lowe’s we are tired of being used and f**ed over be careful because they do not care about you!!!!

Look obviously you had other issues. One issue wouldn't have got you fired. That wasn't a class A. So I am willing to bet like others have said this was probably the final straw. Now this doesn't taken in effect Lowe's continual way of reducing payroll. They always target senior members to reduce it. You like many are targeted as a way of cutting payroll. Lowe's will forever be reducing. They don't want tenure people. They want mindless young kids.

Everyone here seems to side with the customer.

Me? If he asked if I was stupid, I would have said "when it comes to the metric system, yes"

I would have said, "convert that to inches and I'll cut it". And under my breath, "or are you stupid?".

I’ve been thrown under the bus so often ,I feel like a speed bump. S--- it up or expect the results you got. It doesn’t have to be close to right or wrong if you took their wage then you knew better .

At our Indianapolis store a good worker was fired after 26 years. He had multiple handicaps including a speech impediment that made him hard to understand. Reason? A customer and another employee may or may not have heard him say the N word to himself while cutting a key. No one around was black either.

Just to “be safe” they walked him out immediately with no warning. He was unable to find another job so he was forced to take his social security early.

Be aware when Lowes says “be safe” they mean safe from four weeks vacation and hundreds of hours of accrued sick pay. Safe from higher pay that comes with tenure.

We lost several customers over this and many like me left the company over unfairness like this.

Go do less.

(WWMD) he’d fire your a--.

F--- that. Tell that customer right where to go. Yes, you could have just went to google or something. But, it comes a time when you have to just let go and stand up for your self. And, as for that manger; did he ever offer to help you figure out the dimensions? Or was it more of an order? I had worked with Lowe’s for almost 8 years so I completely understand how you feel. But, I eventually got fed up with it and quit and now I’m in a much better place going to school and getting my degree. I applaud you for standing up for yourself

I worked at lowes for 4 years. I know exactly the kind of customers you get. I also know that telling a customer who comes in with metric that you need them to give you inches is poor service when it is easy to pull up a calculator on a phone. In fact, a good service rep with 8 years of exp would have a metric conversion calc readily avail.

On top of that, if you ever think a rep of a company, which you are, should tell a customer they wont help them then you dont belong in a service industry. The issue was resolved, the cust came back over with a manager who said just cut the glass, and you decided you were going to be prideful and tell the customer and manager no because he cursed at you when you were basically telling them to go re-measure instead of doing a simple google search to actually help him.

You may have been a hard worker, but it sounds like you s---ed at cust service. There will always be customers who dont know what they want. Thats why stores dont run on just a pack out crew and cashiers. No one should stick up for you if you gave bad service, which you did. A manager's job is to handle the customer and make them happy within reason. Not gang up on a rude customer with you. As a manager Ive been cursed at and screamed at and called al kinds of things. Im not allowed to go back at them though. My job is to stay calm and de-escalate the situation.

You messed up twice. First you should have just converted it. Second, just cut the damn glass once a manager was involved. You could have blown off steam later in the break room or to your manager off the floor. You chose to escalate a situation and then re-escalate once a manager calmed the situation down. Im surprised you made it 8 years.

Ive run into this time and time again as a manager. Its never ok to escalate a situation and its never ok to be rude to a customer, even if they are rude to you. We all rent our time to the company we work for. As long as they pay us, we act how they want. That's how jobs work. I hope it felt real good to refuse to cut the glass because that feeling will need to last you until you find a new job.

1 inch = 2.54 cm

39.375 inches = 1 meter

Basic conversions I learned in grade school 50 years ago.

Do the math, but explain the cuts may not be 100% spot on.

I do work for Lowe's, doing the above is basic customer service.

i assume its not the first questionable thing you've done, and this was the death blow to give them the last reason they needed to support documenting letting you go

that said, you should never expect retail management to support you against the customers. corporate will hammer those managers if they dont appease every customer complaint. you really...really dont understand the level of pressure put on store management to bend over backward for even the worst customers. because of it....the lowly employee becomes the fall guy so that hopefully that customer will return and spend their money with you. retailers continue to believe they must hold every customer close to their hearts..no matter how awful they are...no matter how little they spend or how bogus or fraudulent the returns. retail corporations have created their own demise by treating customers like entitled toddlers.

in todays environment, if youre going to be in retail you have to accept youre going to be verbally abused and no one above you will stick up for you..because it then becomes their job on the line...every decision you make has to be with a mindset of saving your a--. it s---s....its wrong......not justifying how messed up it is.

Too the two mo--ns who replied you probably don’t work at Lowe’s and have no clue as to some of the customers we have to deal with and the pressure of not having enough help and have customers swearing at you and have no idea what they need. Also the company thinks it is alright for us to have to put up with these types of people and never has our back and always believes the customers even if the customer was a total id--t.

I mean.... you were wrong....

You could have just converted it on your phone or on the computer. Then when the manager brought the person back over you could have just cut the glass. You were lazy about the conversion and prideful about the situation. If you thought a manager was going to agree with you and tell the customer to go to hell you are sorely mistaken. Plus, I would bet this was not the only incident you've had.

Why didn't you just convert meters to inches and cut it? Sounds pretty simple.. It's basic math dude.
