Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Y’all think we can just go on strike should read your contracts

The Railway Labor Act is a United States federal law on US labor law that governs labor relations in the railroad and airline industries. The Act, passed in 1926 and amended in 1934 and 1936, seeks to substitute bargaining, arbitration and mediation for strikes to resolve labor disputes. Its provisions were originally enforced under the Board of Mediation, but they were later enforced under a National Mediation Board.

Unions are NOT worthless. Unions will be around for quite a while. In fact, the more these corporations flex their muscle and treat people poorly...the more working people are going to demand union and union memberships will come back. I can tell you, most working people are about fed up with corporations taking ALL the profits and leaving nothing for the man and woman doing the actual labor. Recently, there have been many employee unions going on strike around the country in various industries and professions. Many of them HAVE gotten concessions from the employer. Like I said...we're FED UP and there will be great retaliation by the working class...IN MASS. Mark my word.

I can go out on strike any time I want. I don't need the unions permission or blessing to do that. Workmen have to search their own hearts and minds and determine what they can put up with...regardless of union position. Give your 8 or 10 hours, do your work to the best of your ability, and if they (managers) cross the line....call them on it. Adjust your future work activities based on how they treat you when you call them on it. It's a give and take relationship and each individual worker has the right and responsibility to give AND TAKE if necessary.

Railroad unions are worthless. Hard workers carry the load for the lazy ones and the company can't rid themselves of the dead weight so UP is stuck in this cycle of having to lay the new guys off so the protected guys can have their a-- time. There is no benefit in working hard once you have seniority. Lazy union workers share the blame for job cuts and if you blame Trump for all your problems you should go to church.

The National Mediation Board (NMB) controls the process, providing skilled mediators who work to focus the parties on common interests and constructive dialogue.

The Railway Labor Act prohibits strikes or lockouts until the NMB releases the parties. Even then, there is a lengthy process leading to non-binding recommendations by a Presidential Emergency Board (PEB), followed by additional talks before a strike or lockout may occur
