Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

The Severance Game

For those hoping for a package, you might be disappointed. In a meeting last week it was said that if Pepsi offers you a job in one of these IT hubs and you decline you will not receive severance. So move your family across the globe or forfeit your job.

What will the press and the court of public opinion say? Not a thing, apparently.

The game here is finding inventive ways to cut cost, aka your severance. Severance is dictated by the labor laws of each country. Sadly, this “fire at will” approach is legal in the US but not many other countries. Most other countries are not very forgiving for leading employees on for 5 years without equal and fair opportunities as compared to all other employees. Even worse, it appears that known intentions to terminate these employees were never disclosed. Restructuring or not, companies cannot play with human rights like that and just walk away. It’s particularly severe when older and longer serving employees are intentionally mistreated. It impedes an already heightened challenge for these employees to get re-employed. Every case becomes a matter of public record with details available to all. The sad part is that this is never an issue for “great companies” who are true to their cultural values of integrity and employee loyalty. Do your homework, keep you emails and get a good lawyer !!

Why would employees not be given the same severence as with previous layoffs ?

Also some positions may be eliminated and not moved to a HUB

Are the majority at the current India location PepsiCo employees or info sys contractors ?

Someone commented that they were told no severence

Not sure that would be the same for US locations

Actually we heard different Friday - they will be offering packages. They may not be good, but I imagine better than nothing if you are still around to get them.

They'll make you an offer that you have to refuse. I've seen them play this game too many times over the years. That way they can sing weave the propaganda that they were diligent in offering new positions to those workers that were impacted because they are such a great company to work for. I wonder if Jody and acolytes will be packing up to move India...NOT
