Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Deleted posts and responses

So I'm wondering why the admin. of this page apparently removed an interesting dialog between a store manager and someone who responded to that person's post. I didn't read anything out of line from either of them. But now it's not there. What's up with removing it? What, we can only post things the admin personally likes????

Been on this site for a few years now, from what I’ve seen posts usually get deleted by site admins if the site rules vere violated. Here some things that can get your post nuked:

  • using real names, initials or other personal info

  • throwing personal insults

  • making derogatory comments thowards groups and individuals

  • using too many f-words

  • off-topics and political grunts

1xw here, call me a kool aid slurper all you want but all of my bill's are paid. I'm not a cry baby because I dont get to have my way. I understand that Walmart did not open its doors just to give me a cush job. If you are not willing to work the hours the company needs then you should work for a bank or a school. Now give me my glass of kool aid and shut the hell up! I have work to do. Something you cry babies know nothing about!

You may not like what @1xw has to say, but that doesn't make it wrong. Being at Walmart's "beck and call" is a bit of an overstatement. Schedules are done I believe 3 weeks out. Just because they may or may not have a "set schedule" does not preclude them being happy.

Getting off into "policies" is a completely separate issue than the scheduling that was being initially talked about and followed up on by @1xw and there is far more validity in that issue.

As far as compassion for their associates, there is also a case to be made there; however, two things come to mind. First is the same point as above, it's not really the point that was being debated here and in the original thread; and secondly part of what is perceived as a "lack of compassion" and even "policies that make associates miserable" come from issues that employees have caused. How many employees have (and continue) to play the "points game"? You make reference to 15 years ago, and frankly I believe it was around 15 years that they initially revamped the call-out procedure. People weren't showing up then so they attempted to do something about it. They've made multiple alterations to that since and no matter what is done, far too many people continue to jerk them around. Same issue with things such as "dress code" and "vests" and so on. I know it's an unpopular opinion that associates should be responsible for their actions and that concept probably makes me a "Kool Aid slurper" too, but so be it.

Back to the initial issue; which was hours/scheduling. If you want to work 8-5 Monday-Friday; then that's fine; but Walmart probably isn't the place for you. For that matter, lots of places probably aren't the place for you. What worked in retail 15, 20, or even more years ago in retail no longer does. Adapt or die. How many retailers have went under in just the last couple of years because they either couldn't change or were too slow to change?

I could go on; but frankly what is the point. Nothing I can say here is going to change a single mind and that's fine. Believe what you want. And by all means, start name calling when someone doesn't agree with you, or even worse points out actual flaws in your logic. Make yourself feel better. Maybe go buy yourself a trophy, I'm sure your local Walmart carries them.

@ 1xw On the flipside, how do you expect to have loyal associates when they have to be at the beck and call of WM? Having a set schedule is one thing but it sounds like most associates don't have set schedules. Happy associates have a life outside of WM and they will translate that to their work environment. Can't remember the last time I saw a happy WM associate. When WM policies make the associate miserable, that also translates to their personal life.

Maybe if WM had more compassion for their associates, the job wouldn't s--- as much.

WM should treat their associates like respected human beings and not like cattle. (Yes, I know 'Respect for the Individual' died about 15 years ago.)

@ 1xw: I stand corrected, I was looking at the wrong post!.................But on the plus side: we all get to see yet another Walmart flavored Kool-Aid slurper on here. I personally hope you end up polishing the brass on the Titanic like the rest of the 10 cent millionaire elite running that company :)

"Accept cutting hours or leave" is the thread the SM was commenting on. It is still there I just read it. Sorry to say the SM has good points. Walmart can not run a store that everyone works 8-5 m - f. If you are not willing to work the hours needed to run the store then stop complaining about having no hours.

Was that the one where the guy called the so called manager out for defending walmarts practice of making people work any and all hours, and they don't care about baby sitters for kids? Yeah, that was a good point
