Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

Chap 11 is happening

Stern: "we’ve reached an agreement with our creditors that will meaningfully reduce our debt by more than two-thirds. This agreement will also reduce our annual cash interest expense by almost $100M. Finally, our creditors, who will exchange much of the debt they hold for equity, are investing new money to fund this agreement. The agreement leaves us in a substantially stronger financial position, strengthening our balance sheet while fully funding our operations. "

To reach agreement, a majority of our creditors had to come together and commit to the restructuring plan. To implement this plan, we will briefly put the U.S. entities into bankruptcy though a chapter 11 filing. We expect this to happen on or about May 1st. Nothing changes in our business because of this filing, and since we already have the votes needed to confirm the plan, we expect to be in and out of bankruptcy very quickly – potentially within days.

While the narrative about debt restructuring in exchange for ownership and investment opportunity sounds good... it bothers me that the original owners are just walking away washing their hands of responsibility for the debt... when you add that part it sounds more like a foreclosure proceeding than a debt restructure.

A vulture capitalist is an investor who buys up distressed companies in order to turn them around so he can sell them at a profit. Vulture capitalists are often criticized because of their aggressive behavior. People will say why so negative look at the above this is what they do this is what they're about this is not a good thing it didn't buy us to build us they could care less about Recovery Services or anything else this company does upper management look out the coming for you first then it will trickle down

Anyone who bought into all the BS on that call

is crazy none of those guys will be here in the next six months venture capitalist or also called vulture capitalists have one interest and one interest only liquidation to get their profits back.

Venture capitalists make money in 2 ways: carried interest on their fund's return and a fee for managing a fund's capital. Investors invest in your company believing (hoping) that the liquidity event will be large enough to return a significant portion: all of or in excess of their original investment fund.

No surprise chapter 11 has come! Very sad. Sungard was once a great company.

'If you feel so strongly about your contempt for the company then leave.'

Don't worry, after today a lot of folks will leave. It's very likely in May a lot of people will be shown the door. Then, after attrition and layoffs, you can 'make something happen' with those folks that are still left.

Spoken like a true company shill, I think you're missing the point that for years, leadership did nothing to keep up with the insanely obvious signals in the market, did nothing but say all is well up until the point of bankruptcy, and will now be paid on their way out the door on May 2nd while the rest of the entity is put on the market for pennies on the dollar. Every one on the street knew this was coming, don't be a further lemming and buy the BS that was fed us today by the spin that Stern shelled out.

Why all negative rhetoric? If you feel so strongly about your contempt for the company then leave. Otherwise stop waiting for something to happen and make something happen.

Half the folks I work with couldn't even get in the call. All I want to know is how much of a sev package is left for the ones of us that get canned next.

All of the people asking questions during the all hands bankruptcy call that I'm listening to right now are either management plants or dropped acid 3 hours before the call

Yeah that was a pleasant email to read at 2 minutes after midnight. Love how they waited until the second so no one could even make a decent April fools joke out of it.
