Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

UP Layoffs Affecting Worker and Public Safety!

With workforce and available locomotive reductions mechanical dept shops are under increased production demands, management often ignores noted safety defects and sends unsafe locomotives out on trains. We are seeing it at our shop and we know it’s a problem across UP’s network. Morale is at an all time low and workers are looking for other places to work before the axe gets them. Hard to tell this is the same company offering hiring bonuses about a year ago! It s---s!

Nope, not a manager. I have nothing to prove and you cannot support your acquisitions either. Just an everyday employee who is proud to have had the opportunity to work for a company that has been good to my family over the last 30 years and putting two kids through college. If you don’t like this company go find a different job...grow up and be a real man. Every employee is responsible for their own safety, not the companies. It the companies responsibility to provide a reasonably safe work area. Shame on the employees who don’t want to make their work area safer for fellow employees. It’s a personal decision that affects all of us crafts people.

UP knows they will have problems with converting to PSR. They don’t care. The end result will be higher profits and happier stockholders and stockholders know it won’t happen tonight. Eventually everything will settle down and the layoffs will subside and this site will have nothing going on. Just accept it and move on.

I see when they show the stats every 2 weeks and we’re down In every measurable way from 2018. No where near 19 goals. We need new management

I find it interesting that adding tasks to replace damaged, defective and dangerous locomotive components costing over $1,000 in UP’s ILP work order system is no longer permitted. You enter the defect and the computer program seeks management approval BEFORE the defect is documented. If the manager refuses to approve, the defect is kicked out of the system and there’s no longer a record that the defect was written up!

Obviously the first person that replied is not a craft worker because everyone is being forced to run defects in a ATTEMPT to make this p.s.r work. Less inspectors, less repair people= more defects and despite what were being told, they do not magically fix themselves.

Where’s your data showing that every aspect... employee and public safety has been compromised? If you don’t like your job go find something else. I like the people in my workgroup at our location and what we stand for.
