I once thought it was okay to go the extra mile because that is who I am. After all these years working in an environment such as UP, watching lazy people getting paid to do nothing, I still held onto that idea that I should fix what I saw or replace that missing bolt even though it was not in the work order. Next week is my final week at UP. After the PSR experience, even if I ever called back, I will never extend an extra ounce of work to them. I am doing exactly what I am paid to do, exactly as lined out by UP standards. I am moving on to a much trusted next employer. Good luck to the survivors.

Up doesnt know how to build people up. Only grind people down.
This is the culture problem they have
What a way to diminish this once stellar company
Congrats on new job. Only advice I’d offer is don’t let your negative experience at UP affect your work ethic at your next employer. Believe it or not there are still jobs and companies out there that reward good job performance and loyalty.
I know how you you feel my friend.I would do the same as you.I once got questioned why it took me so long to fill sand hatches. My job was to fill them and then was told if it was visible it had plenty and move on to the next.Just trying to cover my can on the checklist so it would not come back on me down the road.I was always told do your job to the best of your ability and don't take shortcuts. That seems to me not the work ethic around here.Good luck.
What a shame. I feel like the railroad is one of those unique environments where that kind of work effort is required, much more than your average industry or business. They’re losing a good employee who provided more than needed and it apparently doesn’t count. Good luck to you.
