Thread regarding NXP layoffs

Replacement of experts by young is opex cost reduction. It's been quite normal since FSL acquisition. This kind of people management will last until N finds an another investor or company for spin-off which they haven't found yet. Actually this was planned for QCOM acquisition, and if it had happened mass layoffs would have happened anyway. Since regulatory approval took long and didn't happen, and since they haven't found another investor yet, planned layoffs could not be delayed, but spread in small portions over time, or things like replacement old with new are done, until there is one. That N still cannot find another company stems from the uncertainty of USA-China trade war. This is a quite tense environment with a lot of politics. Good luck for who can sustain this

you will find if you look closely enough that many of the experts get replaced at some point by new college graduates. These are the only group of people manageable by this management team. Anyone with any experience is viewed with suspicion. A few managers get it but went to the crossroads and sold their soul to the devil a long time ago. Those that didn't were "retired", demoted or were severed.

I agree! If you look at a lot of the lower level managers in Chandler, many do not have a degree in anything. Not that a degree is going to guarantee an efficiently run business, but it will get you away from people who lack confidence, a system built on popularity, of who knows who and so on.

Each shift seems to have their own set of rules. One shift says no talking, the other shift doesn't care if you talk.

Just my 2 cents, but when they stop investing in spare parts for the machines, or have to buy them on Ebay cuz there too old...its time to run, there going to shut you down! Just a matter of time.

This all dates back to the days of Motorola and Philip's. Before they got rid of these component divisions the culture was toxic. And the lesson people had learnt by then was that politics was more important than knowledge. So you get what you've got today. A team that have never engineered or sold anything.
