I've sadly come to realize that there's no future at Northwestern Mutual for me or anybody else who is working his or her behind off and trying to get ahead through their knowledge and expertise.
No, with the management we have, unless you are really, really good at brownnosing, you can kiss any promotion goodbye. And I refuse to stoop that low.
I've started looking for a new job already. I can only advise everybody else to do the same.
I feel so much sympathy for my friends still there. I worked there about 20 years. Quit over a year ago with no job and no plan. Also, nobody to fall back on and rent, car, and credit card payments. Best decision of my life!
My advice, it’s scary but do it! If you can get another job first obviously that’s a bonus. I gave plenty of notice, i didn’t walk out. But oh was it tempting. I had horrible performance reviews for years based on ridiculous standards. Don’t let them brainwash you into thinking you’re too stupid to get a job. I’m working on my 3rd degree and I love my new job! And no it’s not my first job. My little girl brain figured out hard work all on her own!
youre absolutely right, get out now. I retired two years ago early mainly I couldn't take their concentration camp tactics. Good luck to you, get out now it doesn't get better.
Original poster is right about promotion. It s---s to be in NM now. If you tell the leadership what they want to hear, you get promotion. Time to leave!
What makes you believe you deserve a promotion? What does “getting ahead” mean for you?
Unfortunately, being promoted and doing well in business means you always have to play the game somewhat, and that’s true anywhere. Sounds like this might be your first job, so would advise that this type of stuff is the rule, not the exception, especially in big companies.
