Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

What are the signs of layoffs on a store level

Can one predict that they are going to be laid off at a certain store. Does the manager start to behave differently? Are you given less taks? Any experiences would be valuable to me.

Even if the managers knew exactly what was going on, chances are if they were to tell you anything, it would be a lie. The only thing we can do is talk to each other, sift through the rumors, observe what is going on and make our best guess.

No matter what happens, my best advice is to plan your exit, and get out as soon as you can. Otherwise it will drive you crazy!

I’m so happy to say... My name is Frank. I’m a recovering Lowe’s Associate, and I’ve been Lowe’s free for 10 days.

A scheduled mandatory nationwide conference call, followed by a lot of "hush hush" from store management until the call. The managers may not know details, but they didn't get their jobs by being stupid. They know something is in the works.

One thing is for certain: When the time comes for your job to be cut, your performance will have absolutely nothing to do with saving it. It will be all about who's butt you've kissed.

If you are good at your job, and proud of your work, either go find a new job now, or accept that you need to start kissing keister. Marvin's podcast lies don't pay the bills. Don't wait for the ax to fall. It's always easier to get a new job when you already have one.

I only hear of changes and corporate directives from people at other stores near me. My SM and ASM literally never tell us about anything. Talked to a girl I know at another store last night and was blown away by all the things they discuss. I even told her it seems like communication is better at her store than mine.

Look man... lots of changes going on. Home Depot failures of yore have taken over Lowes. No one is safe, from any whimsical "thought" of the moment by these bulls on parade. If they say PSA's arent needed any longer, well then, thats it! Youre gone.

Corporate stiffs are empty suits. They are useless at store level operatons, yet have all the influence over it. Leave Lowe's asap. Its the only solution if youre worried.

The leadership team within the store (store manager, Asm, Supervisors) are never told of changes until usually the day it happens... sometimes the store manager knows the day before. These people are kept in the dark just as much as everyone else in stores.

Don't worry about it they're going to do what they're going to do and they're going to expect you to work and task to your walked out the door if corporate decides your time is up then your time is up no matter how good or how hard you work

If you have to feel this way then your leadership of your store is at fault. They should motivate you all as a team. Just do the best you can but remember, “nothing is sacred in retail.”
