Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Any luck in finding new jobs?

I was wondering how job hunting was going for people who were laid off by UP in the past several months? Are you having any luck? If yes, what's the situation with your pay? Is it comparable to what you received here or did you have to take a pay cut?

I'd be grateful for any info - since I'm worried I might be in a similar position of looking for a new job very soon. Just to know what to expect.

Found a new position in just over 1 month. Lateral salary..there are ones out there for higher ( I may have taken one too soon but lateral is better than $0). Still waiting to find out about bonus structure at the new place, but told there is one... Insurance is higher premium cost, but coverage is MUCH better (lower deductible, coinsurance and out of pockets!)

Jobs ARE out there. Keep your chin up!

Depends on what your skills are and where you are. I’m a capitalist and all, but I still can’t fathom why the average employee makes, I don’t know, 70k, and Lance is worth $12 million a year...seems a little out of whack to me.

I do not know what you do for UP, but my skills are in high demand. Lots of interest from other companies and the interviews are lining up. In the meantime I am working on a short term contract with a 50% pay raise. Things are looking very good on this end.

I was hired in 2 wks without lifting a finger. Getting paid about the same if you take rrb benefit in account. Less stress, better job.

Im so glad they parted ways with me. Pleasure is all on this side of the table.

Honestly, that is the largest pat of the workforce and the biggest inefficiency. AUtomat it all just like everyone else. There is no reason to pay some of these people 85k a year....most in fact would not be able to find something that paid them half of what UP pays them if they were fired today.

I need at least 150k a year because that is hat they paid me to watch union slackers.

Location, location, location. Be willing to pick up and move. Although it's a pain in the rump...sometimes a new state/city is just the fresh start a person needs.

Well I know 3 guys that I worked with that have already found a local job that starts out a little less than what machinist & electricians make, but in pretty short time they will be making a few dollars more than UP. Plus they won’t have as much coming out of their checks as UP. Tier1 and tier2 ! If your a good skilled craft person you shouldn’t have to hard of a time finding employment depending on location of course!
