Somebody at the office mentioned that as an option, but it seems like a pipe dream to me. Why would NetApp be willing to negotiate severance when they're not even obligated to provide it in the first place?
Am I missing something here? I'd be glad to be proven wrong, but I doubt it.
Severance can be negotiated if there is a scenario where the company wants something from you. An example would be that they want you to stay on a set amount of time to ensure a smooth transition, or to train others in your skills. In this type of scenario you would have power to negotiate your severance. In a scenario where you are immediately being let go, you have no leverage.
How would you negotiate your severance. There is a set severance policy and everyone gets treated the same way.
Do you know what was severance package in recent layoffs ? What is standard ? Not sure it's negotiable.
