Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

so much for loyalty

Laid off after ~25+ years at GE, riding the tides, ebbs, and flows of the Company. Knew it was coming but getting the Notice s---ed, hurt, and gave me (folks who are on the team and also got laid off) pits in my gut. Hoping that the "nationally known" out placement knows something about engineering, technology, and the law.

My colleagues, who was better than me in many ways was unjustly laid off because he was a quiet guy. Now he has a better job with GE's competitor, and better working conditions that I envy. Early 50's age.

I'm the troll inside the troll. The inception troll.

I love the guy who comments on every single post, accusing the poster of being a troll. The irony of it amazes me, but I'm certain it doesn't even register for him, as I doubt that an unskilled union lackey will understand the concept of irony.

He wasn't laid off, doesn't have 25+ years isn't age 55-59. He was fired a long time ago and likes to troll his former union brothers.

Sorry to hear about your layoff. But if you had 25+ years and you're age 55-59, you should receive the SERO early pension. That's a great benefit, but it's ending on July 1. I'm 57 with 30+ years of service. With my luck, I'll be laid off in August with no SERO benefit. :(

Good luck to you. No shame in getting let go from GE, everyone knows the blame lies higher up.

Sorry to hear about your situation. This is hard to do, but try to stay somewhat positive and let yourself go through the stages of hurt (shock, depression, sadness, madness, then regrouping to foster an attitude to move forward). It will take some time.

What business group are you in and where? I went through the same thing last fall where almost the entire group was laid off. We also knew it was coming, but it was still pretty nasty overall, especially the way we were treated and handled in the closing days after notification.

there is no such thing as loyalty. and that nationally known outplacement firm won't do you any good. GE is only paying them to say that they "care".
