Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Lowe’s New Scheduling System Is A Train Wreck

I’m in one of the markets where we’ve implemented the new scheduling system. I’ve been with the company for nearly ten years and I’ve never seen anything like this.

The upper management has been told not to touch the schedules except for minor changes because they want the new Kronos system to do it for them. This has resulted in complete chaos. The schedules are all over the place and coverage in most departments is worse than ever. Some people work eleven and twelve hour shifts, then work a four or five hour shift on the weekends. We’ve been told to schedule 30% of the available hours on the weekend but the new system never does it. To top it all off, many employees never get two days off anymore and the call ins are through the roof.

Associates are p-ss-d and morale in my market is in the toilet. Upper managers are now abandoning the rules on the new system to try and fix all the screw ups. They are actually spending more time on scheduling than they ever have and this is all the result of Lowe’s senior leaderships attempt to simplify it.

If the people at the top of this company have any sense of self preservation then get rid of this total train wreck of a scheduling system you’ve created. It’s not working and it’s making your managers crazy.

I make the schedule for 42 people and it is a nightmare. Yes, I edit it and fix it. If I did not we would not have any coverage!

Just left Anderson Indiana store. 4 cashiers at pro end standing and talking. 1 cashier in outside lawn and garden who had to wait for help on a code three for the ten customers she had. Then I was exiting at main checkouts and one cashier is timing and 3 others are at the capstan talking to each other.

I would say it is a management issue in that store. The help is there but they lack direction. Basically they are wasting the time of all these people to meet a schedule goal that isn’t based on reality.

BTW I passed through almost every department on my way in and out to use the restroom and not a single employee said hello or even smiled. I said hello first on my way in and none of the pro cashiers even acknowledged me. (They we’re dead center of the entrance)

Marvin has created a culture of failure. Lowes will fail.

is this the LEAST bit surprising to anyone? As for the call-ins just think of how bad it will get in the summer when the burnout has really hit due to this insanity. Who in their right mind will accept one weekend off this summer after having years of semi-reasonable schedules.

My guess is the system is set up to work based on the staffing matrix guidelines. Many managers don’t fill positions because it helps their payroll budget. They are used to moving bodies around as they wish. The new system is probably based on staffing guidelines, which of course creates a huge mess because management doesn’t follow them. The hours and rotations get messed up more and more with each edit.

Garbage in / Garbage out and the employees get the short end of the stick.

They want the system to work by itself, but put none of the effort required to allow it to work by itself. The goal is to have it work by itself, it doesn't, but they force managers not to edit it so they can say it works by itself.

The problem is Lowes is working backwards. I swear, this is exactly like when Sears went with the whole "no edits" thing.

They need to set up the rules correctly in Kronos for each dept. You can set up shifts that need to be filled and they will be filled automatically based on availability. You can also set the number of shifts needed at certain times and on certain days.

Its a garbage in garbage out system and requires someone to maintain the rule sets for each store. My company uses a staff planner that ensures the rules are in place and it can be really effective when it works and all of the info is correct.

The OP must be a manager who now actually has to work.

Those of us on the sales floor are beyond exhausted with the constant nonsensical changes to try to be like Home Depot. This on top of the drastic cuts in staffing.
